Veliko Tarnovo's region contains 14 small cities and 322 villages. The highway "Hemus", which goes from Sofia to Varna, passes for this region. The relief of the region is very varied: valleys, plains, hills and mountains. It is a destination of rural tourism and of contact with the nature that it is acquiring increasingly more importance. UK citizens have been investing here for several years, buying rural houses in this region and also on the coast of the Black Sea.

Houses use to have lands that go from 200-300 m2 to 4.000 m2. The prices are extremely low comparing both with other zones of Bulgaria and with other countries. A house can be bought in good condition with land of 2.000-3.000 2.000m2 for less than 25.000 €. There are investors who buy and reform exclusively this type of properties. Also there are houses with land for less than 10.000 €, but the condition usually is bad or even ruinous. Veliko Tarnovo has an airport that till now one was dedicated to transport of goods, but it is is re-turning to be a destination of companies "low cost". From Sofia the trip is of approximately 3 hours, but it will be one hour less when the works of the highway were ended.
